  • West Horsley Place – Wood and linocut printing workshop.

    Create your own wood or linocut designs to print onto a selection papers.

    Discover techniques to add further colour to your prints.

    Your design can be your own original idea, a found image of your choosing, or based on images and prints from the selection provided.

    There is plenty of inspiration at West Horsley Place - from the eyecatching facade, to the characterful rooms and objects within the house, and stunning gardens.

    There will be an opportunity to explore the house, and it will be possible to take photos.

    You will learn how to design an image, transfer it onto a wood or lino block, and use tools to carve your design.

    You will then ink and print your block by hand onto a selection of papers.

    Afterwards you can take your block away with you to print more at home.

    It will be possible to buy extra materials.

Ashcroft Arts Centre - Spring Time Block Printing Workshop

  • Spring Time Block Printing Workshop – Wood and linocut printing workshop inspired by the colours, plants, animals, and nature of Spring.

    Looking at positive colours in ink and paper to create uplifting designs for brighter days.

    On this one day workshop you will learn how to design an image and render it onto a wood or lino block. Using cutting tools, practice mark making to carve the design in relief. You will then ink and print your block onto a selection of papers.

    Your design can be original, a found image of your choosing, or based on images and prints from the selection provided.

    Simple methods of introducing more colours into your prints will be covered. Including use of inks and colour papers, cutting and pasting, to create multicolour images.

    You can take your block away after the workshop to print more at home.

    It will be possible to buy extra materials.

  • Easter Block Printing Workshop – Wood and linocut printing workshop: design images with an Easter theme to print onto paper and cards.

    On this one day workshop you will learn how to design an image, and use cutting tools to carve your design into a wood or lino block. You will then ink and print your block onto a selection of papers and blank cards.

    Your design can be original, a found image of your choosing, or based on images and prints from the selection provided. Simple methods of introducing more colours into your prints will be covered.

    With guidance on choosing and designing images, and how to successfully render on wood or lino blocks for printing.

    You can take your block away after the workshop to print more at home.

    It will be possible to buy extra materials.

  • No matter your level, master the fine art of linocut design, drawing inspiration from the enchanting worlds of John Craxton, Greek folk art, and Greek mythology.

    Join us for a full-day linocut printing adventure! We’ll kick off with a visit to the John Craxton: A Modern Odyssey exhibition, immersing ourselves in his art’s themes and captivating graphic elements. Afterward, we’ll delve into a hands-on demonstration of lino cutting, mastering safe tool usage and practicing exciting mark-making techniques. You’ll even create your own quick test cuts and prints before embarking on more intricate designs.

    Throughout the day, you’ll acquire valuable skills in designing, rendering, cutting, and printing linocut relief blocks on high-quality paper, using the finest tools and equipment. Learn the art of transferring your unique designs onto blocks and rendering them for precise cutting.

    There will be a lunch break with the option to purchase one of our delicious lunch boxes from Pallant Café.

    In the afternoon, you’ll continue shaping your design on the lino block, experimenting with prints at different stages. The fun doesn’t stop there – you’ll have the option to infuse vibrant colours into your creations, exploring a variety of printing techniques, including reduction, simple blocks, mono-printing, and the intriguing chine-collé technique. At the end of the workshop, you’ll get to take home a set of remarkable prints crafted from your very own lino block.
